Trenton Rocked By Record 37th Murder

The state's capital city suffered its 37th murder this year on Tuesday, tying Trenton's homicide record from 2013.

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred about 2:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Pearl Street, authorities said.

Responding Trenton police officers found a man in his 20s suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Casey DeBlasio, a spokeswoman for the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.

The unidentified victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, DeBlasio said.

The victim’s identity will be released after police notify his family, she said.

There were a total of 16 homicides last year in Trenton.
